I love green juice! I have a Jack LaLanne juicer that my friend bought for me about 10 years ago. I might have used it once or twice in that time but for the majority of those 10 years it resided at the back of the storage closet in the garage. This past year I have been following VegCookbookClub and the cookbook for the month was Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Kitchen. After reading her books you know you must start juicing! She makes it sound so fantastic. My favorite combo of veggies is cucumber, kale, celery, romaine, broccoli stem, apple, lemon and gingerroot. I usually like to use Granny Smith apples because they are more tart than red ones but I couldn't find any organic at the store. I always use organic veggies in my juice; all those concentrated nutrients. My cucumber was getting a little rough looking but it was just fine for the juicer.
My morning drinks before heading to the gym for Pilates.
I have a cup of herb tea, followed by a big green juice -"a glass of sunshine!" Then I shake up a Vega smoothie with a teaspoon of maca powder added to it.
On the way I usually eat a Lara Bar-Pecan Pie is my favorite!
After working out I eat a few Power Snacks. These are little bite-sized pieces of energy. Then I'm ready for the rest of my day.
ooh those power snacks sound like these carob spirulina things i loved before i realized they had honey. yummy! my juicer could use some attention . . .
ReplyDeleteThe Power Snacks are from Navitas Naturals. They use organic date paste to sweeten them. I also like their Cacao Goji Power Snacks. I haven't tried the Citrus Chia flavor yet.
DeleteI still haven't jumped onto the whole juicing thing because I am weary about getting another large kitchen appliance. I've also heard that they are difficult to clean. Is this true? Your juice looks and sounds so refreshing though that I am reconsidering. Do you feel like you save money with your juicer?
ReplyDeleteWhen I wanted to start juicing again I really wanted to get a Breville but I had the Jack LaLanne juicer already. It works really well and is not too hard to clean. I would rather juice my own than buy juice. The place I occasionally buy smoothies and juice is so expensive and they don't use organic veggies.
DeleteI love juicing too, but don't do it enough lately. I haven't tried the maca powder yet, but it's been on my list of things to get. Do you order it or can you pick it up at the market?
